When most of us hear the word obey we automatically get a negative feeling. As if someone is attempting to tell us what to do. Almost, demanding us to submit. However, when God requests obedience He is not demanding. He is a gentleman and will not force himself on anyone. We have free will to choose what we want. But why would you? If we do our part and , obey he positions us in order to advance us to the next level in HIS plan for us. In such a way, allowing HIM to do what he needs to in us and through us. Philippians 2:13 says “for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose”. His purpose, not ours. So, is obedience to much for us that we rather live life uncontrollably, without direction, without the perfect plan for our lives?
Yes we have direction, we make or have plans, and we believe we’re in control. However how many times have we set our sight on that which WE plan. Only to realize it wasn’t what we expected, or we get redirected because it didn’t work out (again this was OUR plan that fails, not HIS). I don’t know about you, but as for me, I know that everything I have tried on my own has either failed, or was messed up. So if I simply choose to follow His command, my life would be better. Okay, let’s see: my plan = not good, His plan never fails. Well I think we all know what my choice is. What is yours?

We often think we know everything! We know what’s right for us because it’s our life. God created you, so it’s not our life to live. Ephesians 2:10 explains we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. We think we know what’s right for us because we don’t need anyone to tell us how to live our lives. If that were true there wouldn’t be rules in this world for us to follow. Somewhere, somehow, someone is making the rules. We also think we know what’s RIGHT for us because we have made it this far. Yes you made it this far. But not on your own, but by God’s grace you have been blessed. 2 Corinthians 12:8-9 “Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
Seeking God is uncomplicated. Simply get to know him. Spend time with him. And when you do, pursuing HIM will be the best thing that you could imagine. And no one is saying it will be easy, nonetheless, it is possible. Matthew 19:26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” You seek to know HIM. You want HIM. To follow HIM, comes with a price and that price is that you must obey HIM in order to receive your blessing. But compared to the price HE paid by dying on the cross for our sins (Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us). We have it easy. So Who will you choose to follow?
“God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’” Job 37:5-6 (NIV)
